Smartphone sales accelerated by AI features

Devices with AI features expected to account for 18% of the market by the end of 2024

Market researcher IDC expects the number of smartphones sold worldwide to increase 5.8% this year. An earlier estimate still assumed 4% growth. AI seems to be the main growth engine.

The research firm predicts that 1.23 billion smartphones will be sold worldwide in 2024; an increase of 5.8% compared to 2023.

The biggest increase concerns the number of Android devices sold, with a growth of 7.1%. For iPhones, it is a projected increase of 0.8%. Apple scores less due to increasing competition in China.

According to the research firm, the arrival of new AI features to devices is spurring more consumers to buy a new smartphone. IDC predicts that smartphones with AI features will account for 18% of the smartphone market by the end of 2024.
