Voice over IP (VoIP) is much more talked about than it is talked over, especially in Ireland. At a time when SMEs are under increasing cost pressures, the lower cost of implementing VoIP can no longer be ignored. This fact was highlighted at the launch of a new partnership between Siemens and Irish-owned DCM Group, which has just been chosen to grow telephony business in Ireland for the complete range of Siemens HiPath solutions.

The relative slowness with which Irish SMEs are taking to the new technology showed up in a recent survey, which revealed that more than half of the small businesses poled had not even heard of VoIP and only 3% were using the new technology.

DCM Group sales manager Paddy Cotter commented: “Initial customer feedback suggests that we have hit a nerve in the Irish marketplace. Improved return on investments are pre-requisites for business leaders in today’s marketplace, and VoIP is one sure way to do that. We are very excited about this partnership as it enables us to further expand our telephony services to both existing and new customers throughout Ireland. VoIP services are at prices that will simply be too low for SMEs to disregard.”

Siemens Channel Manager Lloyd O’Rourke added: “Many companies have been able to reduce communications administration and management staffing over time as they converged separate voice and data networks into a single corporate infrastructure. We believe that there are tremendous growth opportunities available in Ireland, so this partnership with DCM is good news for us and for business telephone users in Ireland. The new possibilities for making IP convergence ubiquitous are even more efficient, flexible and attainable.”
