The Segway may not have had a huge impact on the face of urban transport but that hasn’t stopped its parent company from collaborating with General Motors on a new project: a two-seater electric car.

Now in the prototype stage, the Personal Urban Mobility & Accessibility (PUMA) is a car that can drive on two wheels capable of a maximum speed of 56km/h.

The prototype vehicle can travel up to 64km between charges, and would cost around 60 cents (US) to recharge.

The Segway system uses computer processors to automatically balance a platform using just two wheels. It is currently used by the disabled, former US residents, police forces and polo players.
