An unsolicited bid has once again been made for Google’s Chrome browser. Search.com, which was acquired by ad.com in July, is the second company to officially bid for Chrome.

The $35 billion bid follows that of Perplexity of $34.5 billion earlier this month.

Search.com’s bid is backed by JP Morgan and several private equity parties.

Search.com and ad.com are part of the Public Good family, owned by Ad.com Interactive Media Inc. Search.com presents itself not as a traditional search engine, but as a “digital partner for intelligent discovery, creative conversation and smart solutions”. It combines search functionality with AI chat, productivity tools, creative assistance and more.

The company behind Search.com does not yet have its own browser. Melissa Anderson, president of Public Good, said: “As AI advances at unprecedented speed, it is essential that its benefits become accessible to everyone.”

Perplexity Perplexity is a new browser that combines AI chat functionality with creative assistance and more.

Both Perplexity and Search.com take into account that Google will have to divest the browser from anti-competition authorities, but Google will oppose it and the legal proceedings may take years.

Chrome has a 65% market share, making it the most popular browser.
