Schneider Electric has appointment of Darren Kinsella to the newly created role of business development manager, new energy landscapes.

A leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, Schneider Electric helps customers develop and execute sustainable strategies and business models that meet with their net zero strategies.

It employs nearly 400 people across four sites in Ireland – Maynooth, Galway, Belfast and Cork – and supports customers in key industry segments, including data centres, commercial and residential buildings, life sciences, manufacturing, wind and other renewable energy sources. eMobility is now a key focus across many of these segments.

Based in Maynooth, Kinsella will have a critical role to play supporting Schneider Electric’s customers and partners through the complex challenges and opportunities of the energy transition, including the roll out of electric vehicles (EVs) across the country and implementation of Microgrid systems.

He brings over twenty years’ experience in the electrical industry, during which time he has founded several successful and award-winning businesses. His interest in electric vehicles led to the establishment of Darkin EV, which specialised in EV charging solutions for the electric vehicle industry. The company was acquired by an international organisation in 2021.  Prior to joining Schneider Electric, Darren was CEO for Darkin EV and the new organisation’s eMobility division.

Kinsella is vice president of the Association of Electrical Contractors in Ireland (AECI) and a founding member of the Electric Vehicle Charger Installers Association of Ireland (EVCIA), which is dedicated to setting standards for EV chargers and infrastructure in Ireland. He is a committee member of the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) and Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI).

Since joining Schneider Electric, Kinsella has also been appointed to the board of Smart Grid Ireland, an independent network of industry stakeholders, academia, and government representatives working to promote the adoption of smart grid technologies and sustainable solutions in Ireland.

“Darren is an entrepreneurial and innovative business leader and a well-known figure in the EV sector in Ireland,” said Chris Collins, country president for Schneider Electric in Ireland. “Throughout his impressive career he has mastered every facet of his domain and built a reputation for innovation, an ability to cultivate exceptional teams and connecting his deep understanding of technology with new opportunities. His track record of achievement and invaluable insights make him the perfect addition to the team driving forward our growth plans in Ireland.”

Kinsella said: “Schneider Electric is synonymous with setting the standard for the future of energy transition – something I have a long-held passion for. Schneider’s work to support the roll out of electric vehicles in Ireland is particularly vital and at the intersection of a more sustainable energy future and more flexible and resilient electricity grid to support the ‘green economy.’ I’m excited about the possibilities ahead and looking forward to expanding Schneider Electric’s coverage across Ireland to create positive change for existing and prospective customers.”
