Scam or real? McAfee wants to wake up Internet users
McAfee has launched a new campaign called Keep it Real. The goal: to make people more aware of the rapidly growing threat of AI-driven scams. The campaign has two components: eye-catching digital ads and a storytelling platform called Scam Stories.
The ads are created with AI and designed to evoke confusion. They mimic the uncomfortable feeling people often experience with online scams. The surreal style makes them make people think. McAfee wants viewers to ask themselves one important question: Is what I’m seeing real? After all, at a time when AI is becoming increasingly convincing, it is harder than ever to tell fake from real.
In addition to the ads, the Scam Stories platform provides space for people who have been victims of scams. They share their stories openly, which helps break the taboo and warn others. These personal stories give the campaign a human and recognizable face.
The first results are positive. The campaign is scoring well on social media and click-through rates are above average. This shows that there is a great need for honest conversations about online safety.
In addition, McAfee engages influencers to educate their followers about online fraud and how to protect against it. By combining technology and empathy, Keep it Real aims to not only warn, but more importantly empower people to safely navigate their way through the digital world.
McAfee is also partnering with FightCybercrime.org to better protect victims and further raise awareness around digital safety.
