Samsung Cara White, exclusive to 3

The Samsung Cara White, or S5600, is exclusive to 3 in Ireland in its all white livery. As a mid-range phone this one boasts a fairly good feature list, with a 240×320 screen, 3.2MP camera with flash, HSDPA connectivity and Samsung’s excellent touchscreen interface with haptic feedback.

As with other Samsung’s released in Ireland by 3, a major feature of the Cara White is its T9 predicative texting as Gaeilge. This combined with preinstalled social media apps such as Twitter, Facebook and Bebo, means that the phone is likely to appeal to the younger market.

Small enough, nicely finished and visually attractive, the Cara White uses the same touch screen interface as its stable mates and it performs well, even with aggressive keyboard use.

The attitude sensing feature allows the screen to adjust to landscape or portrait as required and screen quality is certainly competitive. While not a true smart phone, the integrated applications more than make up for this. A personal organiser is provided but without the sophisticated functionality of synchronised calendaring, but features such a 80Mb of integrated memory and a MicroSD slot make this middle weight worth considering if you are among the lighter of business users, especially as it features e-mail capabilities too.

HSDPA at the 7.2Mb/s rate also means that internet browsing or downloading of music is quick and easy, though the bundled headphones could be better – a small gripe admittedly. The FM radio is always a winner and isn’t too hard on the battery either, which is quoted at 3 hours of talk time and up to 300 stand by.

Available for free on 3’s pay monthly option, the Cara White is €179 on the best of both plan or €229 on 3Pay.
