Salesforce takes CRM offline

Salesforce.com has released an Offline Edition for its CRM package that lets users transfer their customer information from the Web-based service into a desktop ‘briefcase’.

Although not connected to the Internet, users can work with the same salesforce.com interface and applications. The service is included in the salesforce.com Enterprise Edition and is available as an upgrade to users of the Professional Edition for an extra EUR27 per user per month.

The Offline Edition generates screens that match the online salesforce.com interface, with no need to install local databases or Web servers. The offline version does not require users to run heavy, resource-intensive software locally on their laptops, but rather allows sales people to take key information with them on the road in a salesforce.com ‘briefcase’. The new capability is designed for remote users and mobile sales teams.

Salesforce.com is based on Microsoft’s .NET technology for Web Services.
