Ricoh retained top spot in the Irish market for MFDs (multifunction devices) in the first half of 2006, according to data from Infosource, market sizing analysts specialising in the office automation and telecommunication markets.

The statistics revealed that Ricoh hold a 26.5% share in mono and 35% share of the colour-capable MFD market in Ireland and UK combined. Ricoh ranks in second place by brand, with 12.9% and 18% of the colour capable markets respectively.

The figures have been released as Ricoh is about to add two devices to its range of colour MFDs. The MP C3500 can print up to 35ppm (pages per minute) in both colour and black and white, while the MP C4500 offers 40 and 45ppm in colour and black and white respectively.

Both machines are designed to function as a robust document hub, offering network scan, print and copy functionality for work groups of up to 30 users. Both machines feature Ricoh’s new colour LCD display technology, which the company claims, makes the machines more intuitive for users and administrators to use.

Speaking to Irish Computer at Ricoh’s recent partner summit in Madrid, Chas Moloney, associate director of marketing with Ricoh, said the Irish figures were very impressive with Ricoh having had some 14% of market share by brand. Ricoh’s Irish partners have also helped boost the vendor with continuous growth in the past 30 months. “We half have half a dozen fantastic partners with organisations such as Bizquip and Digicom and others throughout the country,” said Moloney. He said Ricoh’s channel strategy will be, as before, to focus on the dealers. “We have no plans to have a direct business in Ireland and we’re absolutely committed to our partners there.”

Ricoh has lofty ambitions for the year ahead, aiming to grow reseller sales by 24% – and Moloney predicting that the company can be the number one vendor in this space within the next 18 months.
