Pelikan, known worldwide for its writing technologies and office consumables, has devised a way of refilling big brand name inkjet cartridges without resorting to syringes or other messy Heath Robinson techniques. Perhaps aimed mostly at the home market, this device may well prove popular with SOHO users churning out high volumes of printed material.

The Pelikan PowerPad ink reservoir is designed to mate with the bottom of an empty cartridge. The exhausted cartridge’s inner sponge then automatically transfers the ink from the refill reservoir in a few minutes. The PowerPad works only with the type of cartridges that use a sponge to retain their ink. Visit www.pelikan-hardcopy.com for complete compatibility details.

Pelikan says it devised the PowerPad after cartridge manufacturers began designing their products so that they could not be easily refilled, forcing users to rely on more expensive big-name replacement cartridges. To keep prices down through volume production, Pelikan is targeting the most popular printer brands first, starting with HP.

The empty Pelikan reservoir is 100% recyclable. Its maker claims this contrasts with conventional cartridges, most of which can only be recycled as printer cartridges and not as other products.

The Pelikan PowerPad is distributed in Ireland solely by Dublin-based TCW Distribution.
