A total of 396 schools from the island of Ireland submitted projects for the 2016 BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition – 51% of all secondary schools in the Republic and an increase of 28 schools on the previous year.
The competition attracted a total of 2,048 entries with 4,449 students submitting projects across the science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects. In addition, the gender split of entrants this year is 62% female, and 38% male.
Dublin had the highest number of entries followed by Cork and Limerick in second and third place.
Chemical, physical & mathematical sciences proved the most popular category with 314 entries, followed by biological & ecological sciences (539), technology (338) and social & behavioural sciences (857).
The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2016 will take place at the RDS, Dublin from 6-9 January 2016.
There will be over 120 student, teachers and school awards to be won, including cash prizes, international trips and the overall title of BT Young Scientist & Technologist(s) of the Year.
