Cheesed off! Executives are beefing about the quality of sandwiches

Eight out of ten IT employees feel the quality of sandwiches at their business meetings has fallen, a survey shows. Of those polled by office design firm Maris Interiors, only 4% felt sandwich quality had improved in the past five years, with 16% noticing no change.

Popular sandwiches in 2006 included crayfish-and-avocado, and chicken teriyaki. Today, cheese-and-pickle or tuna-and-sweetcorn make up the staple boardroom diet, the survey showed.

It also found that the cost of sandwiches per person at meetings is a miserly €4.54. When first run in 2006, the survey put the average cost at about €7.15 per person.

Maris chairman Michael Howard notes: “It’s a sign of these austere times that firms are spending much less on sandwiches in the boardroom. It’s certainly a sensible way to cut costs, but be careful not to overdo it: you won’t impress a client with jam sandwiches!”

The survey canvassed 185 people in mid February.
