Putting the money on Munster

Dublin-based accounting firm Exchequer Software has made its first key acquisition in Ireland by buying the customer base of its former software reseller, Reliable Data in Cork, for an undisclosed sum in a cash deal.

Exchequer is to open an office in Cork and a recruiting drive is under way, reflecting the importance Exchequer places on the Munster region for the company’s continued growth. Speaking to Irish Computer, commercial director Alan Connor said that about a fifth of the company’s business was Munster-based – a figure he expects to reach as high as a third by mid 2007.

Connor said the growth in the volume of Exchequer’s business had been slower in Munster than in Leinster but, that apart, had shown “faster growth than any other region North and South in the last decade of our presence in Ireland.”

In answer to a question about future growth prospects, he said that Exchequer anticipated further expansion through the company’s Northern partners as the economy recovers and expands.

As an indigenous software company, Exchequer enjoys the benefits of being able to offer local product and technical support together with a highly developed Irish infrastructure based on distribution, local awareness, regional complexities and culpability/responsibility, together with the reassurance that “we are here for the long term.”

Exchequer, which employs a staff of 25 in its Dublin headquarters, is among the fastest growing accounting software houses in Ireland.

“We have always seen Cork as key to our Irish operation and over the last five years have had great success through our award-winning partner, Reliable Data, with a substantial base of happy Exchequer customers.”
