Publication of source code for Grok chatbot ‘imminent’

Release comes as owner Musk gears up for lawsuit against OpenAI

Start-up xAI is publishing source code for its chatbot Grok in the coming days. Founder Elon Musk is simultaneously plunging into a lawsuit against OpenAI.

The publication of Grok’s source code comes at a time when Elon Musk is in court battling another AI start-up he was involved with: OpenAI. He sued the company last week for deviating from its original founding agreement.

Grok has been touted as open source alternative to OpenAI. The company xAI was established by Musk in March 2023 and acquired $143 million in venture capital.

XAI claimed in late 2023 it that can already reasonably compete with Meta’s Llama and Claude from Anthropic.

In Musk’s opinion, OpenAI became a “closed” company whose technology would become so advanced z that it poses a threat to humanity – a claim OpenAI CEO Sam Altman may have to debunk in court.
