Proxim’s Tsunami T Multipoint wireless LAN system has new features to guard against signal degradation and to handle Voice over IP traffic.

The Tsunami base station has Active Interference Rejection (AIR) that automatically scans and nullifies interference from other devices operating in the unlicensed 5.8GHz band. This is appropriate for urban areas, which tend to have a greater concentration of wireless devices and access points.

Proxim claims that the interference rejection technologies used in the Tsunami can eliminate between 99.5 and 99.9 per cent of an interfering signal using real-time signal processing techniques. For users in the coverage area, this means that signals from Tsunami Multipoint Subscriber Units still come through clearly.

Proxim has also enhanced the existing line of Tsunami Multipoint products with Voice over IP capabilities. This allows organisations to reduce the cost of expensive T1 lines across a large campus.

Tsunami Multipoint and Tsunami Multipoint AIR can handle more than 6,000 subscribers across 100 square miles with an aggregate capacity of 360Mbit/s from a single hub site.

The Multipoint AIR is available in two versions: A 20Mbit Base Station Unit and a 60Mbit Base Station Unit. VoIP capabilities will be available as a free firmware upgrade for existing Tsunami Multipoint customers and will now ship as a standard feature for new units.
