The Provendor system went live in the summer and allows PC Science, a small company with fewer than 10 employees, to accept orders and make sales around the clock. The company’s customers are systems builders and manufacturers in Ireland, north and south.

Supplied and hosted in Dublin by Equinox, the Provendor software allows customers to order products online from PC Science. It also has customer-relationship management (CRM) features that allow users to check their order history and statues and keep up to date with rapidly changing prices.

According to Liz Cunnane of PC Science, the company’s previous Website was very basic and was little more than a price list. ‘If our customers wanted to order something, then they sent us an e-mail,’ she said. By contrast, the Provendor software allows them to order online and pay by credit card.

PC Science retains full control over the contents of the site and can update prices and new catalogue entries with ease. ‘I can make changes to the product catalogue and alter prices on the site from my desk,’ said Cunnane.

As a wholesaler, PC Science controls access to its Website by approved customers who have user names and verifiable passwords. ‘People can come on to the Web and see what products we have available and at what prices. They can look through the product specs and place an order by themselves. We can serve them like this even when all the phones here are busy and there’s nobody available to process the order.’

As regards the CRM features of the product: ‘When the customer logs on we can see all of their contact details and their purchasing history. We can then send them e-mails with details of new offers that we think might be of interest to them, based on their buying patterns.’
