Printing without a PC

Canon has just launched the Printpix CX-400 — a device that prints glossy prints directly from your digital files. It is a very viable alternative to using a PC with a printer.

The CX-400 prints at sizes of up to 6×4 inches, printing directly from digital camera media cards using the simple interface and built-in LCD screen. The inclusion of two digital media slots — a SmartMedia and a PC card slot means that the CX-400 can print from most digital camera media, including the new xD-Picture Card format, using a PC card adapter that is included in the bundle. A USB cable and print drivers are also included for printing from a computer.

The compact CX-400 produces 310 dots per inch (dpi) output using Fujifilm’s proprietary Printpix system, a technique that requires no inks, toners or ribbons, but generates colours on a special coated paper. The Printpix CX-400 allows users to print photos in a range of sizes (up to 6 x 4-inches) — with or without borders — using a special Printpix paper roll. It also has built-in ID-photo templates, which make it ideal for printing standard and custom ID pictures. The Printpix CX-400 bundles with a card adapter for the xD-Picture Card, a roll of paper and a USB cable.
