IBM’s new TotalStorage FAStT600 can provide up to three times the I/O performance and throughput of the previous FAStT200 model. Also, the latest release by IBM of its Tivoli Storage Resource Manager, Express Edition, is designed to deliver comprehensive storage resource monitoring and planning tools for heterogeneous storage environments.

Together, these products offer medium businesses running Linux, Windows and Unix applications, an enterprise-like capability for managing heterogeneous storage networks at an affordable cost. Built with IBM autonomic capabilities, which allows for self-diagnosis and repair, IBM’s FAStT and Tivoli SRM Express can help manage business data more efficiently.

The FAStT600 is designed to be an entry-level storage server that, with the appropriate expansion units, can scale up to six terabytes, facilitating storage consolidation for medium-sized businesses. The FAStT600 uses the latest in storage networking technology including 2 Gbps Fibre Channel for storage networks. As part of the IBM FAStT family, the Model 600 uses the same common storage management software and high performance hardware design, helping to provide customers with enterprise-like capabilities found at high-end models, but at a much lower cost.

The FAStT600 is expected to be available from April 15, 2003.

IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Express edition is designed for deployment on single processor desktops. It provides a cost effective way for mid-sized businesses to extend SRM functionality to the stand-alone client so storage can be managed across their entire enterprise. As a key component of IBM Tivoli’s storage resource management family, IBM Tivoli SRM Express provides customers the ability to centralise client asset information, perform capacity planning, as well as set storage policies at the client level.

IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager provides a comprehensive Java-based storage management tool to proactively predict need and manage resources. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Express edition will be generally available April 25, 2003.
