A new payment solution for updating Xbox Live subscriptions and purchasing gamer points has been unveiled by Irish company Phonovation. Available initially in Ireland and the UK, buygamepoints.com will allow gamers to make payments on Microsoft’s online console gaming platform via mobile phone. Until now the only way to purchase these was through specific retail stores, or by setting up an account with a credit card.

The service is currently available to contract or pay-as-you go customers of O2 and Vodafone in Ireland and all networks in the UK. In July it will extend to mobile phone users in Germany, Czech Republic and Spain.

Buygamepoints.com offers two payment options: by sending an SMS message to 51000 specifying a three-month Xbox Live Gold subscription for €24.95, 800 points for €10.99 or 2,100 points for €24.95. Alternatively, users can visit buygamepoints.com and enter a mobile phone number to be charged.
