Microsoft has axed longstanding partner Osmosis from its OEM distribution scheme in favour of Clarity and Sharptext.

The two distributors join existing partner MicroWarehouse in managing the distribution of Microsoft products that are pre-installed and bundled on hardware devices before they are sold to users in Ireland.

Commenting on the changes, Microsoft Ireland OEM sales manager Saoirse Fahey said: “The appointment of Clarity, MicroWarehouse and Sharptext provides us with a solid distribution network to support our OEM business in Ireland.”

She added that Microsoft was “facing into the greatest period of innovation in our history and we’re completely focused on how we can best support our partners and customers to take advantage of the fantastic opportunities these new technologies are offering for increased productivity and innovation.”

Clarity sales director Paul Marnane said he was delighted to have come through Microsoft’s rigorous selection process, adding: “Our proven track record of partnering with premier IT brands has been recognised.” He claimed the distributor could offer a number of “unique advantages” to grow Microsoft’s business in Ireland.

Sharptext managing director Paul White was “delighted to have had our relationship extended and strengthened.” He said the distributor’s wide customer-reach and strong position with SME resellers would “ensure increased software sales with computer shipments at point of sale, leading to increased business levels and improved licensing compliance for Microsoft products in Ireland.”

Rory Wilson, managing director at MicroWarehouse, highlighted the company’s links with Microsoft since the 1980s. “We have seen the amazing growth in the adoption and use of technology by consumers and businesses since that time. The forthcoming launch of Windows Vista, 2007 Office and Exchange 2007 are major events for the industry, for consumers and businesses. We are looking forward to an exciting year.”

Osmosis declined to comment on the Microsoft OEM changes, but sales director David Fitzgerald said the firm was “confident in our business going forward and we’re looking forward to a vibrant 2007.”
