CeADAR, Ireland’s centre for applied artificial intelligence (AI), announced that Kevin Neary, chief executive officer of Orcawise, has been appointed to its board. Orcawise has been providing marketing AI products and services to companies since 2015.

Neary initially introduced Orcawise to CeADAR as a client company before it became an industry member.

Orcawise services include The AI Roadmap and OrcaSignal providing datasets on SaaS companies to help identify the potential buyers of AI solutions. It supports companies that already have a marketing team and want to scale using AI models.

As a CeADAR Board member, Neary plans to support the centre in creating a greater connection with SMEs and fostering more awareness among SMEs of the benefits that AI can bring to their businesses.

Headquartered at NexusUCD, CeADAR is funded by Enterprise Ireland and the IDA. It has more than 90 member companies across a span of industries and is one of 30 digital innovation hubs across the EU focused specifically on delivering AI services to industry.

“AI has amazing applications for SMEs, and they need to embrace that. It will bring them cost savings, efficiencies and make their systems run smoother. SMEs that are growing quickly need to see how AI can be used to help their businesses; if they don’t, they run the risk of not being competitive,” said Neary.

“There might be nervousness out there but that is due to a lack of understanding. We need to educate smaller businesses to ensure they are not afraid of AI. They need to dip their toe in the water and see how it can help them. Organisations like CeADAR can reach and engage with SMEs on this issue and I want to work with them on that.”

Edward McDonnell, director, CeADAR, said: “As the longest-standing member of our Intellectual Property Commercialisation Committee, he has brought energy, enthusiasm and practical perspectives to it, and we look forward to his input as CeADAR expands its support of Ireland’s SME sector.”
