Collaboration software vendor Open-Xchange has added cloud storage to its offerings to allow users to sync files, folders, documents and pictures.

The company’s new OX Drive will be available fully integrated with OX App Suite, a browser-based productivity suite that provides tools for managing email documents, calendar and social network feeds, it said. The cloud storage will soon also be available as stand-alone product, it added.

OX Drive will offer file syncing and collaboration features, both in-browser and with native applications available for Android, iOS, Windows 7/8 and OS X devices, Open-Xchange said.

Users will be able to view, edit and share their documents and pictures anytime, anyplace, it said. Document editing will be possible in combination with its in-browser word processing tool with editing capabilities, called OX Text, that can also be integrated with App Suite.

Open-Xchange offers its services to service providers like ISPs, hosting providers, telecom operators and system integrators, who can offer it to their customers in turn under their own brand, the company said.

By adding OX Drive to its offerings, Open-Xchange wants to enable service providers to meet customer demand for creating and sharing files across multiple devices and operating systems, it said. Open-Xchange’s services are also meant to give service providers a chance to compete with offerings from the likes of Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft, it added.

Open-Xchange in Nuremberg, Germany, received a $20 million investment last July that it is using to speed up feature rollouts for its web-based office suite.
