OCZ Rapier to cut through the competition

OCZ Technology Group announced their new gaming keyboard earlier this week, called the Sabre. Featuring nine OLED keys, the Sabre produces quick keyboarding commands through its programmable and visually customisable interface.

The nine hotkeys form a grid that users can tailor to their individual needs, depending on which program is in use. Using OLED technology, the Sabre converts digital images and text into imprints on the keys to remind the user of the associated command. For instance, a first-person shooter game will bring up OLED images of the arsenal and directives; switch to email and the keys will change to functions like ‘reply’ and ‘send’; surf the web by pressing the Browse to URL key; quickly navigate through a design program, then print an image with one tap.

Each time one of these applications is activated, the Sabre’s hotkeys will shift through the imprints.
The Sabre has unlimited programmability, as each icon can also feature a subset of functions such as Alt/Ctrl commands and shortcuts, each individual to whatever application is in use. As long as there are keystrokes associated with a function, Sabre’s software will record the sequence and store it within the many layers.

Backlit by yellow LEDs and blue side lighting, the standard keys are coated in rubber, which promises to last more than 5 million cycles. The Sabre is also ergonomically tilted and includes a wrist pad.
The Sabre is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista.
