The growing demand for chips for artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked a race among companies to provide the necessary computing power. Nvidia, one of the leading chip manufacturers, recently unveiled the first Blackwell wafer produced in the US.

This milestone was made possible by a partnership with TSMC, a global semiconductor giant, at its new plant in Phoenix, Arizona. Nvidia announced the news in a blog post.

Nvidia said that the collaboration strengthens the US supply chain and secures America’s position as a leader in AI technology. The production of these advanced chips – including two-, three-, and four-nanometer variants, as well as A16 chips – will power critical applications such as AI, telecommunications, and high performance computing.

This move is part of broader efforts to solidify US leadership in technology and manufacturing. Nvidia’s announcement follows a wave of major deals between AI companies and chipmakers such as AMD and Broadcom, aimed at increasing data centre capacity. TSMC recently raised its revenue expectations for this year, based on strong forecasts for rising AI spending. The company reported record profits that exceeded market expectations.
