ICT Ireland has launched a new jobs initiative for unemployed graduates which will provide job placements for people who hold a degree/masters qualification in ICT related engineering of computer science.

The Graduate Placement Programme, which has been organised in association with the Institution of Engineers of Ireland (IEI), will place up to 100 graduates in an Irish ICT company for a minimum of six months. Around 20 high-tech companies have signed up to the programme including IBM, Apple, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle and Sun. According to Tim McCarthy, chairman of the ICT Ireland Education Working Group, the new initiative recognises the growing concern about a declining skills base in the ICT sector. ‘The high-tech sector is crucial to Ireland’s ongoing economic success,’ says McCarthy. ‘It is vital that we take steps now to address the looming skills shortage and ensure that Ireland can benefit from the inevitable upturn in the IT sector.’
