Following successful pilots and tutor training the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) has launched two new courses for rollout nationwide this Spring: Website Design & Development for Learning and Internet & E-mail for Learning.

The Website Design & Development for Learning course aims to develop the skills required to design, construct and develop an educational website accessible to all web users. Participants will use web authoring, image editing and FTP software programs culminating in the creation of a simple educational website and explore means by which a website can be used share resources. The courses 20-hour duration also includes a six-hour distance learning module, which is a novel and interesting approach for TSI (Teaching Skills Initiative) courses.

The Internet & E-mail for Learning course seeks to enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills to use the Internet and e-mail effectively in teaching, learning, communication and research. Over 15 hours, participants will spend time locating and evaluating educational resources on the Web with some additional time for practical classroom based work relevant to their own teaching and learning.

Both courses are now available to first and second level teachers nationally through the network of Education Centres. Places are limited and uptake is expected to be considerable, so early booking is advisable.
