Netflix launches in Ireland

Netflix has finally arrived in Ireland. The service, which accounts for a third of all the bandwidth consumed in the US, provides streaming video from a large catalogue of film and TV shows from the US and UK.

For a monthly subscription rate of €6.99 users will have full, unlimited access almost an Internet-connected PC, console or mobile device. A minimum connection speed of at least 500Kb/s is recommended to avail of the service.

Massively popular Stateside, Netflix accounts for nearly a third of the bandwidth consumed in the US.

While not the first service of its kind to land in Ireland, Xbox LIVE and Apple TV are already doing well with more limited catalogues, Netflix will present the biggest threat so far to the ailing video rental market from the online space.
