Ice Broadband, in partnership with IT specialist Hitec, is bringing broadband internet to Carrickmacross, the first site in Co Monaghan to be covered by Ice.
Ice plans to expand its coverage in Monaghan in the next couple of months. Executive chairman Fran Rooney commented: “We believe that setting up community broadband schemes to deliver fast, high quality and reliable broadband is an integral part of the community infrastructure so that, commercially, we remain at the leading edge in the new knowledge-based economies”.
Among those at the Carrickmacross launch was Dr. Rory O’Hanlon, former Ceann Comhairle and former chairman of Hitec’s board.
Hitec Carrickmacross, established in 2000, runs an IT training facility and maintenance workshop in the town, in addition to facilitating broadband connectivity. Spokesperson Allison Cooney said the organisation aimed to raise awareness and use of ICT “by demonstrating how it can help the education, work and lives of those in the community of South Monaghan”.
