Sage’s MMS (mid-market solution) accountancy software is aimed at mid-sized companies and is built around Microsoft’s .NET architecture. It provides users with the ability to model their own commercial business processes, is easy to upgrade from previous Sage applications such as Sage Line 50 or Line 100 and has a true 32bit Windows interface.

Sage reckons it is the first accounts software to use the .NET architecture, linking information, people, systems and devices to provide a flexible information infrastructure which allows the sharing and integration of data across a business.

It is fully customisable so that third party developers can customise specific applications to meet the needs of any business in any industry. Data entry is now easier and quicker than its predecessors and there is a novel warning system that alerts users to data entry errors as they go.

Sage MMS provides a platform for several other products, including Sage Transaction e-mail, which enables Sage users to send business transactions to one another electronically. It also has integrated customer-relationship management (CRM) features for leading third-party applications like ACT! and SalesLogix. It has the ability to build in government submissions for VAT and corporation tax and has links to major Irish financial institutions for online banking.

Standard features include: nominal, sales and purchase ledgers; sales and purchase order processing; multicompany, multicurrency and multi-user capabilities; detailed budgeting and management information to allow users to set up accounts for individual departments and cost centres; a cash book which controls all bank-related activities; and stock control, which provides detailed product records, full product history and ‘real world’ stock-taking procedures.
