Microsoft’s new large-screen collaborative device, the Surface Hub, will be available to order in Ireland from 1 July.

There are two options, the 1397mm (55”) Hub at €7,999 or the 2134mm (84”) Hub at €22,449. The devices bring together applications and services such as Windows 10, Skype for Business, Office, OneNote and what Microsoft terms “Universal Windows apps” to provide a collaborative experience that incorporates remote workers as easily as those present.

The Surface Hub is “cloud-connected” and, according to Microsoft, “delivers the power and versatility” of a Windows 10 device combined with the “simplicity and consistency of a custom interface” that is designed for shared spaces. Usability is the as key aspect, and the device is designed to allow anyone to use it immediately without prior training to share ideas and information.

The device incorporates white-boarding, videoconferencing, content sharing and other collaborative features, based on its heritage in the Windows ecosystem. According to Microsoft, by connecting the industry-specific Universal Windows apps that organisations rely on to manage their business processes with an engaging remote meeting and collaboration solution, Surface Hub brings a new level of innovation and efficiency to the way people work.

“While there are a number of devices designed to improve our productivity as individuals, there has yet to be a device that is truly optimised for a group of people to use together — designed not just for what we need to do, but how we want to work. Until now,” said Patrick Ward, business group lead Windows, Microsoft Ireland. “Just as the PC revolutionised productivity for individuals, Surface Hub will transform the way groups of people work together.”

Microsoft said that it is working closely with strategic partners to ease deployment of the Surface Hub in organisations to allow it to naturally integrate with existing spaces and IT environments, including distributors, resellers and service providers.

The Surface Hub and related accessories will be available to order from 1 July, with shipping from September in 24 markets, including Ireland.
