Online security specialist McAfee is to increase the workforce in its Cork facility from 180 to 300. The 120 new jobs represent an increase of 160%, and will double the number of the firm’s European sales staff.

The firm announced the 120 new jobs in a week when Irish Government figures showed that the country’s unemployment queues had doubled in the past year, to 264,000.

McAfee’s parent company recorded revenue of over $1.6 billion last year, up 22% on the previous year’s $1.3 billion. The firm set up its Cork operation in 2004 and is now among the world’s most widely used security software names.

Its Cork offices handle its operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
