Mastertronic Group has today announced that it is launching Great Indie Games which is a new label created specifically to bring Indie developed games to a wider audience. Mastertronic are confident that this label can advance the considerable retail potential of games that are high on gameplay and options for social networking and collaborative play.
Andy Payne, managing director of Mastertronic Group commented, “We have always wanted to work more closely with developers and we believe we can add real value to Indie games by getting them in front of a mainstream retail audience and shouting from the rooftops about the fruits of their considerable labour. With the many and varied PC games offerings out there, casual or otherwise, there is a place for great games that have been produced on a lower budget than normal by small development teams. Every other creative art has Indies, indeed the games industry grew out of Indie pioneers, so it is about time we helped them get back to where they belong.”
First on the Great Indie Games label will be the critically acclaimed and award winning World of Goo. Developed by 2D Boy and described as “Indie gaming’s ‘finest hour and the best puzzle game since Lemmings” by PC Format magazine.
Neil McKenna, who heads the publishing team at Mastertronic added, “I am really pleased that we have decided to put this marker down and build an Indie games label. At Mastertronic, we have always concentrated on bringing great value core PC games to a retail audience and this is a natural progression for us. There are a slew of ‘pick up and play’ games on the market, some good, some not so good. World of Goo is simply fiendishly addictive and a game for everyone. I am sure that this will be a hit.”
Mastertronic’s will be releasing three new franchise compilations: Conflict Collection, Hitman Ultimate Contract and Deus Ex Complete. World of Goo will launch in UK, Ireland, Australasia and Nordic territories in early July on PC.
