Magicbox Imp WiFi Radio on test

Life

27 March 2006

Simply plug it in and The Imp connects to your existing Wi-Fi network and will access all registered internet radio stations. Stations are uploaded alphabetically, country by country. Then select the country or music genre of choice for a list of available stations and hit select. All stations are updated and any new ones are automatically added every time you turn the Imp on. This little beauty is also a media player, you can stream your Itunes or music library from your computer, allowing you to listen to your tracks anywhere in the home.

The built-in speaker is not what we would call powerful but the fact that there is an audio port for external speakers solves this issue if you’re looking for quality sound.

There is free and simple access to over 2500 stations from around the world. You can also listen to your favourite station from home wherever you are in the world. A list of available radio stations checked and updated daily. The station will plays all major digital audio formats including MP3, Real Audio, Windows Media Audio, and AAC.

It will also wirelessly plays from your PC or Mac music library. It also has a built in clock radio so you can wake up to your favourite station from around the world.

Verdict 8/10

It is a little on the pricey side. We’re not too sure that we’d part with our hard earned cash if we saw the Imp on shelf in a shop but after using it for a few weeks now we can’t imagine reverting back to a normal radio. We can’t see the Imp replacing your Hi-Fi system but is a great choice if you’re looking for a sound solution for the bedroom, kitchen, garage, or shed.
