The Localisation Research Centre (LRC) is holding its 8th annual conference and industry showcase for multilingual digital media publishing from Monday November 17th to Wednesday November 19th 2003 in UCD’s O’Reilly Hall in Dublin. Entitled: ‘Where digital media meets localisation’, the event is being organised in co-operation with the Department of Computer Science (UCD) and the European Union’s ELECT project.

The first day of the event is entitled: ‘The International Localisation Research Conference’, and is designed to give researchers who are active in localisation-related areas an opportunity to exchange views and discuss localisation as an emerging field of academic research and study. A workshop in the afternoon will enable members of the Localisation Teaching, Training and Research Network (LttN) and other interested parties to discuss and plan matters of common interest, including publications and initiatives such as a summer school and LOTS satellites.

Day two is: ‘The International Localisation Standards Convention’ which, according to the LRC, ‘will define the requirements from the users’ perspective, present relevant standards initiatives and demonstrate the implementation in real-world products’. In the final session of the day, participants will get the chance to discuss the issues with a panel of presenters and assess the LRC proposal for the Interoperability Standard Verification Initiative for Localisation.
