Logitech Dinovo Edge

Logitech claims the Dinovo Edge is the world’s most advanced keyboard. The technology that justifies such remarks is usually based on design rather than original functionality.

Built from a single sheet of laser-cut plexiglass, the Logitech Dinovo Edge is very slim and stylish. The company has achieved a minimalist look by making most additional functions fade out of view when not in use. To activate them, press the Fn button, which lights up actions above the function keys to control web, e-mail and multimedia, and offers four keys for custom controls.

Logitech’s Setpoint software lets you set up your own actions for each additional key on the board.

You’ll also find a touch-sensitive volume control, mousepad and quick zoom buttons, but no separate numeric keypad. The Edge connects via Bluetooth using the supplied dongle and charges on a stylish docking stand.

The keyboard takes some getting used to because of its slimness and flat keys. But after a few hours we were typing faster and more accurately than on other boards.

But we missed the numeric keypad and the Edge has less functionality than others in Logitech’s range.

ItÕs frustrating pressing two keys to access shortcuts, and you’ll probably still use a mouse despite the touch-sensitive keypad.

It was Logitech’s aim to produce an ultra-stylish and minimalist board and it has succeeded. The Edge is great to use and offers decent media control, but has sacrificed some practicality in the process. And at €223, it’s not cheap.

The Dinovo Edge is a stylish keyboard and nice to use. Whether casual users can justify the price is another question.
