The consumer electronics and mobile communications company, LG Electronics, has set up a dedicated Irish office to provide a direct sales channel for its range of white and brown goods.

Trading as LGE Ireland, the company has initially made what it describes as “a six-figure investment in the form of sales and marketing support for the local office.” Part of this will be devoted to joint marketing and promotional projects with key retail and distribution partners.

LGE kicked off  the first stage of its new operation with the recruitment of local market sales and technology specialist, Ian Collins, as sales manager for the Republic. Collins, who will initially be field based, is to focus primarily on supporting the major multiples.

Collins said he expects to work closely with long-standing business partners such as Kal, a major distributor for LG’s products, and this will compliment LG’s already strong presence in the Irish market through current channels, including the network 3 and a some independent air-conditioning resellers and installers.

Brian Na, president of LG Electronics UK and Ireland, said Ireland represented a key growth area offering “exciting opportunities for consumer electronics and mobile communications.”

Basing its expansion on the brand’s success in the UK during 2006, LG hopes to mirror this performance in Ireland. Products include the first-to-market touch-sensitive Chocolate phone, LG’s LCD and Plasma HD-ready TVs, and Blu-ray players.
