Lenovo has launched its ThinkStation workstation PC – the first new Think brand in five years. The ThinkStation S10 and D10 workstations are aimed at professionals in demanding data and graphics intensive environments, such as computer-aided design and engineering.
The machines are based on the upcoming Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5400 series and Intel Core2 Extreme processors, the first processors based on new 45-nanometer technology that nearly doubles the density of transistors on the chips for more energy-efficient performance.
The AT&T Williams Formula 1 racing team is among organisations evaluating the workstations for use in their operations.
Lenovo says it is collaborating with leading independent software vendors for certifications that ensure seamless hardware and software interaction. A variety of storage, graphics adapters, memory and rail kits will be offered for the workstations.
The machines come equipped with a range of ThinkVantage productivity tools, and will be available in January through business partners and from Lenovo. Price of the S10 will start at about EUR*829 and the ThinkStation D10 at about EUR*1,199.
