Kaspersky reports cyber war among virus writers

As seen in previous cases, recent virus activity has shown that virus writers are battling for control of infected PCs. As one virus spreads and infects machines, often taking control of them, subsequent viruses from other sources seek to remove previous infections, securing those PCs for the virus writer’s own nefarious ends.

Control of infected PCs allows virus writers to use them for spam forwarding, distributed denial of service attacks or as download sites.

David Emm, senior technology consultant, Kaspersky Lab said, “NetSky.q and Mytob.c have been fighting for first place in Kaspersky’s ratings for several months now.
