May saw the launch of what claims to be Ireland’s largest indigenous healthcare informatics firm. Helix Health resulted from the merger between healthcare companies Medicom and Systems Solutions.
Helix says it plans to create a further 20 high-tech programming and technical support jobs over the next 24 months. It currently employs over 100 staff and generates annual revenues of over €10 million.
The firm says it plans to invest over €750,000 each year in R&D in an effort to develop new solutions.
The firm’s chief executive, Howard Beggs, commented: “Helix Health was created through the shared vision of connecting the primary care and community pharmacy sectors through IT. We look forward to electronically connecting all primary healthcare providers, improving quality and accessibility of healthcare services for both primary healthcare providers and patients.”
Helix Health allows for increased synergies between pharmacies and primary care professionals through the combined expertise of Systems Solutions, which supplies software offerings to the pharmacy sector in Ireland and the UK; and Medicom, which provided software and ICT services to primary and secondary care professionals.
The firm’s official launch was attended by Minister of State and Chief Whip Tom Kitt.
