Specialist wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd is looking to software to top up sales for its Irish subsidiary, which occupies an historic premises in Dublin’s Harry Street, just off Grafton Street.

The UK based wine merchant has enlisted Maginus, providers of integrated software solutions for multi-channel retail and distribution companies. Maginus is setting up a combined back office and point-of-sale system to support the Irish business.

Berry & Rudd, established in 1698, sells wines through its retail outlet in Dublin, by phone and web, and through wholesale to hotels, restaurants and wine cellars. The Irish business has been growing recently, and the firm plans to double turnover over the next few years.

The wine merchant’s general manager for Ireland, Jessica Lavin, noted: “No one else in Ireland has a system like this, so we think this will give us a competitive edge and enable us to achieve our ambitious targets in a competitive market. With the Maginus system we have a better view of customer preferences, so we can put offers together and stock accordingly.”

She said the merchant had selected Maginus for its dedicated wine trade functionality, including management of en primeur stock (wines offered for sale while still maturing in barrels and not yet ready for bottling), for its ability to process duty and rates, and for the firm’s track record.

“The new systems will enable us to process more orders, make fewer errors and eliminate duplication because the new system is totally integrated. We chose Maginus because it was a totally integrated system that can handle both our retail and wholesale distribution from one solution.”
