Juniper Networks and Avaya plan to provide integrated VoIP and networking systems for branch and remote offices in an attempt to edge out Cisco.
The strategy is to put multiple services on a single branch office box and offer a full branch system that includes the J4350 and J6350 J-series enterprise routers, Secure Services Gateways and full Unified Threat Management capabilities.
Commenting on the new relationship, Irwin Lazar, an analyst at Nemertes Research, said: “We’re seeing a consistent trend towards the enterprise wanting more functionality combined with fewer boxes in the branch to reduce cost and complexity.” According to Lazar, the new relationship is well-positioned to serve the expanding branch office market and to support critical features including business continuity.
Commenting on the strategy, Fergal Murray, channel manager of Juniper distributors NextGen, said: “The partnership with Avaya will give Juniper customers a well-known and feature-rich VoIP platform that can be integrated into the new J4350 and J6350 in the first quarter of 2007.”
Jupiter’s products will compete directly with Cisco’s ISR 3800 series routers.
Adoption of IP telephony by businesses and organisations continues to expand at a steady pace, according to the Synergy Research Group, 2006 saw more than 14 million lines shipped globally.
