CLISTE

Computer Literacy and Internet Skills Through Education (CLISTE), is a brand new digital literacy programme developed by the skills and certification division of the Irish Computer Society. It is a primary school programme launched this September for 3rd and 4th classes.

CLISTE is designed to support teachers in integrating IT into the regular primary school curriculum by teaching digital literacy skills to their students while they do their normal classroom work.

The aim is to help primary schools bridge the digital divide that exists between primary and secondary school while enabling students to develop an interest in ICT at an earlier level.

The flexibility of the programme allows for coding and other digital literacy skills to be slotted into the primary school curriculum or simply carried out through one-off projects. Already, two schools have come on board, one of which is a Gaelscoil. As the programme has only just been launched it is currently in 3rd and 4th classes this year only. It is however designed as a spiral curriculum to cover from Junior Infants up to 6th class.
