It has been reported that up to 60% of Irish businesses are being tasked with maintaining IT service levels with reduced budgets.
The study “Cloud Computing – Meeting the Needs of Irish Businesses” which was conducted by Digital Planet, found that despite the many benefits of cloud computing, many Irish firms were struggling to find it within their budgets to move to the cloud. It was also revealed that almost half of those surveyed (49%) have no immediate plans to outsource to the cloud.
Brian Larkin, operations director at Digital Planet outlined the many difficulties facing Irish businesses in the current economic climate. Larkin stated that, “Irish businesses are facing a perfect storm of reduced budgets, increased technology complexity and security threats, combined with a growing shortage of skilled IT people to manage the challenges.”
Digital Planet which has recently invested €1.6 million into providing an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to Irish organisations, estimates that embracing the cloud can cut costs by up to 35% as well as releasing further resources and time into the core business.
Larkin added that, “IaaS allows Irish companies to reduce the headaches, resourcing and cost of maintaining in house servers, networks, storage and applications.” Larkin concluded by saying that, “companies can start the process by outsourcing part or all of their IT infrastructure.”
