Ireland Live Television News, Ireland’s newest television station, was officially launched by the Taoiseach on February 22nd. Bertie Ahern opened the 24-hour news station with a live broadcast, welcoming in the digital media station.

Available at www.irelandlivetelevision.tv, the channel is part of Ireland Live Television Networks. It is aimed at the worldwide Irish community, which totals almost 70 million.

Using its own news crews, the 24-hour rolling news channel shows bulletins every 15 minutes and can be viewed free of charge. Presenters include Emma Buckley, Cathy Cregan and Bob Gallico.

Ireland Live Television was established by Andy Ruane. He also founded Like It Love It, the production company behind the Lyrics Board, Pop TV on TG4 and TV3’s Perfect Match, before buying Anner and developing it into a media group.

Almost ¤6.35 million was invested in Ireland Live Television News. The live broadcast feed can be distributed by satellite, cable networks, digital platforms, broadband and wireless.

The network also has several video-on-demand channels, including sport, music, business and finance, Irish language, politics, entertainment and comedy. Future channels will include cookery, travel, shopping, betting, art & literature, kids and technology. Eventually, the network could offer up to 25 channels.

Ireland Live Television can be viewed free of charge as it is funded by advertising. Commercials will be shown on the station and can be clicked on. To watch the news channel, viewers need RealPlayer. The program can be downloaded free of charge from the Ireland Live Television Website.
