ICHEC, which has its headquarters at Dublin’s Trinity Technology and Enterprise Campus, has been chosen by computer graphics company Nvidia as their next CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) research centre. The decision was made on the back of the centre’s world-recognised research.
Nvidia develops graphics processing units and chipset technologies for PCs, mobile devices and video game consoles, including the Microsoft Xbox and Sony Playstation 3. The company recognises and fosters collaboration with research groups at universities and research institutes. The ICHEC is one of only seven research centres globally to be chosen as a CUDA Research Centre, which illustrates the quality of output from the company.
Welcoming the announcement, associate director of ICHEC Dr Jean-Christophe Desplat said: “The ICHEC has achieved a hugely significant feat in securing one of only seven international slots as a CUDA Research Centre. This is a reflection and a recognition of the outstanding work and dedication of the team led by Gilles Civario, Head of ICHEC’s Capability Computing and Novel Architectures group. We acknowledge the significant input of Science Foundation Ireland and the Higher Education Authority in facilitating such research.”
As recipient of Nvidia CUDA Research Centre status, ICHEC receives a range of benefits such as international access, training, and technical liaison opportunities.
