Microsoft is delighted at being ranked as one of the fastest-growing business intelligence (BI) vendors, seeing the accolade as a positive sign for the launch of its latest BI offerings.
An IDC report scored Microsoft’s growth rate at 28%, making it top scorer among the leading 10 industry vendors. The market as a whole grew by 11% in 2006.
The software giant’s newest BI software offering, Office PerformancePoint Server 2007, is slated for release in just weeks, and SQL Server 2008 is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2008.
IDC analyst Dan Vesset said Microsoft’s performance management could take on the form of “various decision-support and reporting functions to improve revenue, profit and operational efficiency; decrease costs, uncover new opportunities or mitigate risk.”
