Ingram Micro’s country manager for Ireland, Phil Kane, has been made redundant by the distributor after nearly 13 years service. Kane’s job was axed as part of a round of as many as 26 redundancies by Ingram Micro UK last month. Her redundancy could raise questions over Ingram’s commitment to the Irish market.

The distributor recently added another employee to its Irish operation by bringing in Aaron Millet over from its Cisco Business Unit in the UK as national account manager to drive its Cisco sales in Ireland.

Kane said she was taking time to consider her options and was hopeful of picking up alternative employment quickly in the new year. It is understood some manufacturers and distributors have al-ready approached her.

Bhavesh Patel, commercial director at Ingram Micro UK, said Kane had been “an ambassador over many years, and instrumental in developing key reseller and distribution relationships in the Ireland IT Market. We would like to thank Phil for all her efforts, and wish her the very best for the future.”

Patel dismissed suggestions that the loss of Kane signalled a reduction in Ingram’s focus on the Irish market, stressing the distributor remained “very committed to driving sales for our key tech-nology partners selling solutions in Ireland through our remaining sales personnel, both in the UK and out in the field, while supporting our existing distribution relationships”.

Ingram has a longstanding partnership with Irish distributor Memory Bank.
