Industry body awards Siro fibre broadband operator of the year in Amsterdam
Siro has won the European Fibre Broadband Operator of the Year 2025 by the Fibre to the Home Council of Europe at an event in Amsterdam.
The Award recognises companies who have made a significant contribution to the development of full fibre broadband connectivity across Europe. Previous winners have included Germany’s Deutsche Telecom and Italy’s Open Fibre.
Siro’s network is available to almost 650,000 homes and businesses in all Irish cities and over 140 towns in every county in Ireland. It continues to roll-out its network and is on track to reach more than 700,000 premises by 2026.
FTTH Council of Europe President Rosheen McCool said: “Siro’s achievements in expanding full fibre broadband in Ireland are a significant contribution to the country’s digital transformation. The FTTH Council of Europe recognises the role operators like Siro play in advancing fibre connectivity across Europe.
“The growth of fibre networks in Ireland, which is now on track to meet national connectivity goals, is a positive step towards ensuring all Europeans have access to high-quality broadband.”
Siro CEO John Keaney added: “Access to high quality fibre-to-the-home broadband is changing every aspect of how we now live and work. From working from home, or in digital hubs in regional areas outside of our overstretched cities; accessing online learning or public services to AI transforming how business operates, increasing digitalisation is touching all our lives.
“In Siro, a company rolling out the broadband network underpinning this transformation, we are motivated each day to ensure communities across Ireland can benefit from the opportunities to live and work in better, more sustainable ways.
“Ireland can point to significant progress over the last decade. We have jumped from one of the lowest levels of Fibre to the Home broadband in the EU, to a position where we are rapidly catching up with Europe’s top performers. So much so, that the process of copper switch off in Ireland is expected to commence shortly.”
