The IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the managed registry for Ireland’s official Internet address .ie, has said the Optimise e-Commerce Website Development Fund will support a further 20 small firms to improve their e-commerce capabilities in 2014. The announcement was made at a ceremony congratulating the 2013 winners yesterday.

Now in its fourth year, Optimise has so far provided 45 small and micro-business owners with e-tools, training and development support services to update their existing online presence and grow their operations via the Internet.

Having worked closely with a range of small businesses to help address their individual needs using bespoke ecommerce solutions, IEDR today also reported a series of “Top 5s”; an overview of five key motivating factors and common constraints expressed by participating small businesses embarking on their Optimise journey, the five areas where help was needed most and some notable results achieved by the Fund participants during the past three years.

Congratulating the winners on completing IEDR’S 2013 Optimise programme, David Curtin, chief executive of the IE Domain Registry, said: “IEDR is proud to have helped 45 small firms to date embrace e-commerce technologies to find their niche online. With our Optimise Fund now firmly established, we’re excited about helping a further 20 firms achieve their online potential next year. Our experience in working with small companies at various stages of their online life means we can deliver tailored e-commerce solutions which make a real difference… At a time when Irish consumers are spending in the region of €4 billion on the Web, there’s never been a better time for small firms to be e-commerce ready.”

Optimise winners who received certificates of completion include family run businesses, emerging and established companies from the food, travel and tourism, media and publishing, retail and technology sectors including Business World, Press22, Java Republic, Datascope and Puddleducks.
