The Irish Computer Society has announced its securing of additional funding from the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural resources for Equalskills, part of its BenefIT programme. Under the terms of the move some €14,400 has been put aside to subsidise training for the unemployed, retire over 55, disabled and women in the home. For qualifying applicants the €330 fee will be reduced to €20. A total of 70 places are available.

Commenting on the development, Kelli Marjolet, marketing and communications manager, IC, said: “Given the economic climate it is important for Ireland to upskill as much as possible. The Equalskills course will give individuals who take part the basic skills needed to be independent and part of working society.”
